this was a blast; it's an interesting process to lay down the watercolor first (in a sequence) and then follow it with ink. Something i've never tried before.
the subject and the idea may be very cliche.
Growth can be beneficial or detrimental. While a heart has the ability to grow a completely new member, literally or more abstractly (the tree can be seen as a new thought, or harbored feelings, etc.), it has to be sitting stagnant, doing nothing else, long enough to do so. not good. the tree may die eventually; it can only last so long when its source is exhausted. apply this to any emotion. does it work?

Suggester says: "The concept of the piece and the way it was made is marvelous and I really like how the artist produced so much detail."
My first reaction when I saw this was "oh no!" because i've been thinking for a week or two about how I want to draw a tree growing out of a heart.... almost just like this. I want that as a tattoo. So... i guess you'd never know the difference, but if you ever see a girl with a hearttree tattoo on her back, she didn't steal the idea from you
